16a_egypt_isis

Seated statue of Isis (side view) Egyptian, Faience, 7th – 8th Dynasty (2181 - 2161 B.C.) This is a small statue of the god Isis, who was the patron goddess of fertility. Isis is the wife of Osiris and the mother of Horus the protector. When Osiris was killed by Set, it was Isis that searched the earth and recovered the parts of his body. This small item would have been used in household worship or in the burial of a commoner to help his entrance into the after life. This specimen was recovered at Memphis.
